Doc No - Amanita Reverbiosa EP

Doc No - Amanita Reverbiosa EP

by Tom Ojendyk

Doc No, the Brooklyn-based modular synthesist Noah Davis, put out the fine release Quimby Variances in early 2025 and is now back with this new companion piece that’s drawn from the same creative sessions. Comprising six concise tracks, the recordings are short but rich, each one evoking a distinct atmosphere while maintaining an underlying mycelium cohesion that connects everything. The music is focused and dynamic without sounding cluttered or unnecessarily complex, yet doesn’t sacrifice depth. I’m assuming the title to the final track “Florian’s Trip” is a nod to Kraftwerk legend, Florian Schneider, and there are elements of classic German electronic music to these tracks, but it doesn’t seem like a throwback or tribute and instead sounds forward-thinking and, at times, joyful, which is a welcome relief these days.
