Fantosh Flak is São Paolo, Brazil-based music producer and audiovisual artist Beto Machado. This enjoyable 11-track release of experimental and atmospheric ambient pieces was made using modular synthesizers, DIY instruments, field recordings, and a cassette. The music is often very rhythmic with a lot going on in each of the tracks. While the pieces are improvised, everything feels well-constructed and at times is richly melodic. As the name might suggest, Slo-fi Tide has an aquatic feel on a lot of the tracks and they often sound hopeful despite being recorded in pandemic-induced isolation. With so many rich layers in the music there are new things that will stand out with each listen. Very nicely done. - Tom Ojendyk
