The first tape release from Needle to the Groove Records—which is both record label and record store with two locations in northern California—Practice Bird Heads grabs right off the bat. With syncopated, arpeggiated synth lines, Tangerine Dream initially comes to mind before it mutates and reaches more abstract Eno-esque multi-faceted layering and movement. Kiri describes this release as “a meditation in concert,” and the touch is certainly there. Limited to 100 cassettes [a downloadable version is available too], I’d grab a copy if you have both the chance and a means with which to play it.
