Ned Lagin
 - Seastones Sets 4 and 5

by Ellison Wolf

When you’ve got members of a famous and beloved musical group—as well as other well-known musicians—contributing to your record, many times that tidbit of fact will be the part that people latch onto, and Ned Lagin’s Seastones is no exception. Contributions from Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, David Crosby, Grace Slick, David Freiberg, Mickey Hart, and Spencer Dryden, have mostly overshadowed the initial Seastones that was ahead of its time when it first released in 1975. Part sound art, part music, and made utilizing tape, analog synthesizers and computers, Seastones definitely has more appeal than just a Deadhead footnote. Drawn from both previously released and unreleased Seastones material, this is not just for die-hard Dead fans, there are some truly beautiful moments here. Available through the most excellent IMPREC label, get the blue vinyl before it's too late.
