STYLOPHONIKA - Kingston University Stylophone Orchestra
by Ellison Wolf
Who knew the Stylophone could be so magical? What could be a novelty record like something from 70s—anything with a synth in it after the Switched On boom—STYLOPHONIKA is anything but. The instrumentation is beautiful, and along with Korg Volcas, Theremin, Omnichord, and the voices of the orchestra, it's hard to argue the power and beauty that the stylophone is capable of. With pieces ranging from Budd to Bowie, to a stellar original, "Akoustiki," by one of the orchestra members, the arrangements on STYLOPHONIKA are immaculate. Co-produced with Bowie [and T. Rex, and...] legendary producer Tony Visconti, arranger/producer Leah Kardos and her crew have hit the bullseye with a moody, spacey, esoteric album that’s hitting all the feels.
