Voka Gentle - Domestic Bliss
by Ian Rapp
Domestic Bliss is the new full length from fellow Waveform contributor William Stokes' band, Voka Gentle. The trio (also consisting of identical twins Imogen and Ellie Mason) finds the band stretching their wings on the ten tracks with solid rhythmic foundations and a mixture of male/female and singing/spoken word. With a mixture of alt-rock influences ranging from Tame Impala to Radiohead to Marilyn Manson (?!) to Battles, the band flexes throughout, but still finds time for some VG style mellow introspection at stops along the way. Tracks "You Deserve It!" and to a slightly lesser degree, "Kinema," which starts small and builds to a full blooded hypnotic release, affords a some breathing room and intimacy. Closer "Ultra Aura Glow" highlights Imogen's voice and has been on repeat in Waveform HQ since its release, and I also really dig the Scott Walker-esque vox on that track. Domestic Bliss is a compelling release and should find the UK trio securing a bigger piece of the pie.
